[Bookbinder's Ticket] In black ink on white paper, the bookbinder's ticket consists of a border made up of joined circles surrounding black text of various sizes and fonts. The word 'Carswell' begins with a decorative letter 'C'. A decorative element in the shape of a water drop or a flame is found in the lower middle of the bookbinder's ticket. 2. [Bookplate by Colonist Lithography] In black ink on cream paper. The top center contains the coat of arms, flanked by elaborate leafy scrollwork. In the center is text in multiple bold fonts identifying the book number and library number (with gray rectangles where these numbers were handwritten). The bottom third contains the small text rules. Surrounding everything are two thin borders, between which, on the bottom edge, is the name of the lithographer. 3. [Bookplate for Arthur Coburn by L. J. R.] The image is of a man standing between two deciduous trees. The man has black hair and is wearing antique garments from the Italian Renaissance and white tights. He is also reading a large black book and has a small black leather belt and pouch. The whole image is surrounded by a double filleted black border. 4. [Bookplate for Arthur Keily] This bookplate features an escutcheon with top edges scrolled, bottom tip mantled. The escutcheon is argent (silver), and charged with a tower with two windows, supported by two lioncels combatant. Above the escutcheon is a straight crest wreath topped with an enfield, statant. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. Escutcheon is shadowed by a field of wavy lines. 5. [Bookplate for Arthur Lowndes] Black ink on white paper. The bookplate features an oval shape with a thin, pale black border. At the top of the bookplate is a rounded section with a base that goes down a point towards the middle of the bookplate. The image depicts a procession of men entering what appears to be a brick church. The man at the front of the procession is carrying a cross. There is foliage growing on the church exterior. The men are entering an arched doorway and there are windows above and to the right of the doorway. To the right of a procession is a small metal fence with a brick pillar, behind which is a tall, leafy tree. Other trees are silhouetted in black on the far horizon. The base of the image is decorated with leaves and flowers with many petals. Below, the background is a speckled grey wall and there are two crests, one of the left and one on the right. On the left, the crest features a tall leafy tree on a crest-wreath. To the right of the tree is an argent shield charged with three sable fleurs-de-lis, two over one. At the base of the tree trunk, a ribbon billows out to the right with text printed in capitalized, black, sans serif font. The shield is argent with a bend. The bend has a border of two thin sable lines and is charged with three argent leaves. Below the shield, the mottos is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, black, sans serif font. On the right, the crest features a sable erased dragon’s head floating above a crest-wreath. The shield is all argent with a lozengy field. There is an argent canton in the upper left corner of the shield charged with a smaller version of the sable erased dragon’s head from the crest. Below the shield, the motto is printed on a curling ribbon in capitalized, black, sans serif font. Below the crests is a large fireplace. The mantle is covered with books. There is a lamp on the left side of the mantle and a vase filled with plants on the right side of the mantle. Alongside the fireplace, books are stacked on shelves on the left and right-hand side. The mantle itself is decorated with simple vertical black lines. There is a simple iron grate in front of a roaring wood fire. On the left and right hand side of the fireplace itself are square shaped decorative features. There are also fireplace implements on either side of the fireplace. On the floor in front of the fire are a dog and cat. The dog is black and white and is lying down on the left side of the bookplate. The cat is also black and white and is sitting on the right side of the bookplate. Below the cat and dog, the bottom portion of the bookplate features a dense floral decoration. On top of the decoration is a banner with curling ends upon which the bookplate owner’s name is printed in capitalized, serif, black font. 6. [Bookplate for Arthur Mizener and Rosemary Mizener] A black border surrounds the text. 7. [Bookplate for Arthur Phelips Hoskyns] In black ink, this bookplate contains a crest with dexter rooster's head, erased or (gold), comb and wattle gules (red), and three roundlets pellet (black) on neck. 8. [Bookplate for Arthur Richard Springett] In black ink on white paper, this bookplate consists of a shield or escutcheon Gules (red) party per fess wavy with three crescents, two over one, Argent (silver). The closed, barred helm in profile toward the dexter half bears a crest of a displayed eagle upon a nowed snake in a figure eight and a straight wreath. The helm is surrounded by mantling. Below the escutcheon, a banner bears the motto 'MEMOR ET FIDELIS' [Latin: Mindful and Faithful]. 9. [Bookplate for Arthur S. Andrews] In red ink, a decorative border surrounding the name. 10. [Bookplate for Dallas Hinton and Ardith Hinton] Three copies of the same image are printed on Avery label paper using a black and white computer printer. The image is of a man standing between two deciduous trees and reading a large book. 11. [Bookplate for Earl Gower by Griffiths and Weigall] This heraldic bookplate consists of a escutcheon, divided per cross or quarterly. Quarters one and four are argent (silver) with bars, gules (red) and charged with a cross patonce, sable (black). Quarters two and three are azure (blue) charged with leaves, two over one. The escutcheon is supported by two wolves rampant. Upon the escutcheon is a crown of earl status (minus the internal cap). Above the escutcheon is a crest of a wolf passant upon a straight wreath. Below the escutcheon is a banner with Latin motto within. 12. [Bookplate for Henry James Grasett] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features bow loaded with arrow aimed to the left. Feathers stretch outwards on either side of the base of the bow on a crest-wreath. Shield is argent and sable per saltire, divided with a sable cross. Top and bottom quarters are argent charged with a plant with round top and brush head. Feathery leaves appear at either side of the base. Top feature has two sable stylized decorations featuring roundels three over two atop three lines connected at the top that separate outwards at the bottom. Four of the same decorations are featured in the bottom quarter. Left and right quarters are sable charged with five point stars and a stylized design element similar to those in the top and bottom quarters, but thicker and in argent. The shield is surrounded by a stylized border decorated with various curls. Below the shield, the motto is written in capitalized block letters on ribbon with elaborately curled blackening ends. 13. [Bookplate for Hillfield School] In green ink. This textual print consists of letterpress type and handwritten script. There is a straight wreath crested by a boar's head, above a banner with Latin motto, at the top of the print. 14. [Bookplate for John Charles Alison Heriot by Graham Johnston] This bookplate's design features, in black ink, an escutcheon, argent (silver), charged on the fess with three cinque foils within an indented bordure. Above the escutcheon is a tilting helmet, charged with a straight wreath and a dexter hand couped at the wrist, which holds a laurel wreath aloft. Decorative vegetative mantling surrounds the escutcheon within the bounds of a rectangular frame. Behind the laurel wreath, waves a banner containing the bookplate originator's Latin motto and below the coat of arms is a separate compartment containing the originator's name. This bookplate appears to be a smaller version of BP MUR SL P H475b, but the creator's initials are barely visible amongst the mantling. 15. [Bookplate for John Charles Alison Heriot by Graham Johnston] This bookplate's design features, in black ink, an escutcheon, argent (silver), charged on the fess with three cinque foils within an indented bordure. Above the escutcheon is a tilting helmet, charged with a straight wreath and a dexter hand couped at the wrist, which holds a laurel wreath aloft. Decorative vegetative mantling surrounds the escutcheon within the bounds of a rectangular frame. The bookplate designer's initials and the date of creation are hidden among the mantling. Behind the laurel wreath, waves a banner containing the bookplate originator's Latin motto and below the coat of arms is a separate compartment containing the originator's name. A smaller version of this bookplate may also be viewed at BP MUR SL P H475a. 16. [Bookplate for Kennedy McIlwraith] Black ink on white paper. The image depicts the main entrance to University College at the University of Toronto. 17. [Bookplate for Marguerite H. Powter by Clare Victor Dwiggins] Black ink printed on yellow paper. A woman in fanciful dress leans over a cherubic figure who is holding an open book. Books are scattered on the floor, below which is the bookplate owner's name. The entire scene is framed by vines and flowers. 18. [Bookplate for Mechanics-Mercatile Library by Arthur F. Mathews] Black ink on tan paper. Picture shows men working on a large, domed building. Text at bottom. 19. [Bookplate for Norman H. Friedman by A. G. Racey] Brown ink on cream paper. A man is seated in a wing chair by the fire, wearing slippers and reading a book ; his face is not visible but his pipe pokes out from behind the chair. A fire is roaring in a brick fireplace behind him, with a bust labeled 'Kipling' on the mantelpiece ; the mantel is inscribed with the words 'Be a reader but not a book keeper' with initials below the quote that appear to read A.G.A. In the foreground, there are piles of books and manuscripts and a small dog. 20.
